Direct download for Ovi Maps 3.0 without using Map Loader

Ovi Maps is the new name of Nokia Maps, and the old Nokia Map Loader is replaced by Nokia Maps Updater. With Ovi Maps on your Nokia Smartphone, you can take free mobile maps, no extra money, explore places you need nearby, and let Maps show you the way. On foot or in the car, Maps can direct you to your destination turn-by-turn, starting from right where you are.

This application is final version, many of the bugs that made the older beta test versions unusable have been fixed. There are still plenty of bugs left, but on most Nokia phone these won't be worse than the bugs that remain in the old Nokia Maps 2.0. Some features on Ovi Maps 3.0: weather, events, and movie info, faster zooming and panning, newer maps, and traffic info for North America. And the maps for India in Ovi Maps 3.0 are better than those of the old Nokia Maps.

Make sure to choose the right type of map. To check your version of Ovi Maps or Nokia Maps select "options" and choose "about" in Nokia Maps or Ovi Maps on your phone. Find your version of Nokia Maps. If this is not the right version for you choose another version here. Someone on the Nokia forum managed to fix a "map layers out of sync" problem by allowing the maps application to go online once. Should you face the same problem, this solution may work for you too.

Instruction:
  • Download Ovi Maps without Nokia Maps Updater [symbian underground]
Ovi Maps 3.0 for S60 3rd ed. Feature Pack 1 (N82, N95, etc., check this list of FP1 phones)
Ovi Maps 3.0 for S60 3rd ed. Feature Pack 2 (N78, N79, etc., check this list of FP2 phones)
    Ovi Maps 3.0 for S60 5th ed. (Nokia 5800XM, N97)
    Nokia.Ovi.Maps.v3.01.2602.S60v3.SymbianOS9.1.Unsigned(h@ck ver)
  • Run Ovi Maps on your phone once before you add any maps or voices. This will create the required folder structure on your memory card.
  • Unzip the downloaded map files and drop them into the appropriate folders on your memory card.
  • On my Nokia the folder structure is cities with a subfolder called diskcache, filled with 16 subfolders called 0 to 9 and a to f, and each of these folders have another 16 subfolders 0 to 9 and a to f.
  • Map files have the extension .cdt. Example:
    [memory card]\cities\diskcache\[0-9, a-f]\[0-9, a-f]\filename.cdt
  • On some Nokia phones (like the N95) maps are stored in:
    \Private\20001f63\diskcache\[0-9, a-f]\[0-9, a-f]\filename.cdt
  • To install, just drop the 16 folders called 0-9 and a-f into the diskcache folder.
  • If your phone has both folders, get a small map (for a single country) and try both folders to see which one works. Even Nokia's own map loader doesn't always get it right. Details on the Nokia discussion board.
  • You may need to tell your computer to show hidden files and folders

How to add Voices for all versions of Nokia Maps
  • Run Nokia Maps on your phone once before you add any maps or voices. This will create the required folder structure on your memory card.
  • If you unzip the voices, you'll get a folder with a name of the language. This folder contains an .xml file and a subfolder full of files without any extension. This folder should go into the cities folder.
  • For example, if you download english.zip, the unzipped folder (called english) goes into the cities folder on your memory card so you'll get:
    [memory card]\cities\english\etc.
  • On some Nokia phones (like the N95) voices are stored in:
    [memory card]\Private\20001f63\english\etc.
  • If your phone has both folders, try both folders to see which one works. Even Nokia's own map loader doesn't always get it right. Details on the Nokia discussion board.
  • You may need to setting your computer to show hidden files and folders.

Destination Maps, Navigation System for Indoor from Nokia

Do you often get lost in a building? Do not worry because NAVTEQ, Nokia-owned company that develops OVI Maps, has announced a new product called "Destination Maps". Applications for the Nokia smartphone is capable of providing data and also allows mapping and direction in a public building. For starters, Destination Maps will have data on more than 200 shopping centers in the United States.

This application does not use GPS system (global positioning system) because of its use in the room. So to map the position of the user, Destination Maps uses a transmitter that runs at 2.4GHz. Previously, this technology had been tried during the event Nokia World 2010 with satisfactory results. Thanks to collaboration with OVI Maps, users will benefit when using this application, both applications can work seamlessly, so there is no pause when users navigate outside the room via GPS, as well as indoors.

Google Maps of PAKISTAN available for Offline Mobiles

The wait is over and OFFLINE Google Maps on mobile are available for you to download. This is the first time ever in Pakistan that Offline Google Maps have been available to use. It was hard work downloading Maps especially with Loadsheddings, so it was not possible without teamwork, thanks to following guys who helped me in doing so. are r3aper, eViLrAcEr, shad0w.

STEPS
Follow the Steps Below to Install it. This Method applies to Nokia business phones, BlackBerry, Java Mobile Phones that have in-Built GPS. For Symbian Mobiles that have no GPS, they can buy a bluetooth GPS device and connect that through bluetooth and still use it.

A) PC STEPS:

1) DOWNLOAD THE MAPS:

Password for the files is at the end of page.

a) Google ROAD MAPS
i) Google Road Maps from Zoom Level 1 to 14 (All Pakistan) (149 Mb) (http://www.mediafire.com/?5owdz5ezmw5)

ii) Google Road Maps Zoom Level 15 Only ( All Pakistan) (143 Mb) (http://www.mediafire.com/?5zewjwmm0mz)

iii) Google Road Maps Zoom Level 16 and 17 Only (20 Major Cities) (53 Mb) (http://www.mediafire.com/?yxqyzkzoojy)

iv) Google Road Maps Zoom Level 16 ( All Pakistan) Part 1 (198 Mb) (http://www.mediafire.com/?8rla0ljjf8t9kau)
-----Google Road Maps Zoom Level 16 ( All Pakistan) Part 2 (198 Mb) (http://www.mediafire.com/?dgafv5nat7r8a87)
-----Google Road Maps Zoom Level 16 ( All Pakistan) Part 3 (http://www.mediafire.com/?36099afayey77h1) (5.5 Mb) (http://www.mediafire.com/?36099afayey77h1)
(Thanks to evilracer for this one)

b) Google HYBRID MAPS (Includes Satellite View)
i)

iii) Google Hybrid Maps Zoom Level 13 Only (20 Major Cities) (http://www.mediafire.com/?c2ofm5mktnt) (15Mb)

iv) Google Hybrid Maps Zoom Level 14 & 15 Only (20 Major Cities) Part 1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?tmz0emmezyi) (190 Mb)
----Google Hybrid Maps Zoom Level 14 & 15 Only (20 Major Cities) Part 2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?ro2jyutdym0) (27 Mb)

iv)
v) Goolge Hybrid Maps Zoom Level 17 and 18 Only (Rwp-Isb-Karachi only) (http://www.mediafire.com/?mju0iucj3yg) (95 Mb)

c) Download Cache.conf File here (http://www.mediafire.com/?dgdz0joezgv)

Note:
a) Google Satellite Maps will install automatically with Google Hybrid mode. You should not delete Satellite view files otherwise Hybrid Mode will not work

b) If you download All Pakistan maps for a certain zoom level, lets say Zoom level 13, then you don't need to download Zoom level 13 of Major Cities as its already contained in All Pakistan maps.

c) Download the Maps as per your requirement

If you have an 8GB Memory card then I suggest you download
All..... Required Space is 2.4GB space... so utilize ur space...

If you have 4gb card then i suggest you download
Google Road Maps from Zoom Level 1 to 14 (All Pakistan)
Google Road Maps Zoom Level 15 Only ( All Pakistan)
Google Road Maps of 20 Major Cities ONLY Zoom Level 16 & 17
Google Hybrid Maps Zoom Level 1 to 12 ( All Pakistan) Part 1 & 2

If you have 2 Gb card then I suggest you download
Google Road Maps from Zoom Level 1 to 14 (All Pakistan)
Google Road Maps Zoom Level 15 Only ( All Pakistan)
Google Road Maps of 20 Major Cities ONLY Zoom Level 16 & 17

In My Opinion everyone must download:
Google Road Maps upto Zoom Level 15 (All Pakistan) then
Google Road Maps with Zoom Level 16 and 17 (Major Cities)
Google Hybrid Mode Upto Zoom level 12 (All Pakistan)
then Add any zoom level you want according to space you have in your memory card..

2) COMPILE DOWNLOADED MAPS
Once you download all files then Create a Folder "MGMapsCache" and extract the files into it as shown in Picture Below.
Dont forget to copy cache.conf file in MGMapsCache folder otherwise it will not work.

Note: You can Delete any zoom level that you dont want, lets say you dont need Google road maps of Pakistan at zoom level 16 then just delete the folder "GoogleMap_16" but if you want to delete Hybrid Mode, lets say Zoom Level 13, then you have to delete both folders "GoogleHyb_13" and "GoogleSat_13"

3) COPY TO MOBILE MEMORY CARD:
Now connect your mobile to PC through USB using "Removable Mass Storage mode".. This is true for Nokia and Blackberry. But dont know for others... OR you can just pull out your Memory card from your Mobile and insert in Card reader.
Now copy compiled MGMapsCache folder to ROOT DIRECTORY of your memory card. See Picture Below
Do not use bluetooth for transferring maps as It will take a hell of time transferring to your mobile

Note: Maps will take very long to transfer .. often 2-3 hours.. so dont panic..

B) MOBILE STEPS:

1) Download MGMaps for Mobile:

a) For Nokia 5800 and N97 (click here) (http://www.mediafire.com/?oxfnmiztzon)

b) For Blackberry (click here) (http://www.mediafire.com/?gmtdtodkdzm) and install it to your blackberry using Desktop Manager... (Most of black berry users will know how to do it)

c) For All Other Mobiles please click on page below and find your specified Model and Download accordingly
http://wap.mgmaps.com/
OR
http://www.mgmaps.com/download.php

Note :You should prefer downloading the Development version 1.42 .. If 1.42 is not available for your model e.g with Blackberry then download the Stable version 1.39

STEPS For Nokia 5800: (Steps are common in all mobiles exception is Windows Mobiles with GPS)

1) Install the mgmaps-1_42_01.jar file in your mobile memory card you will see the icon as below.. Open it ..

2) When asked 2 questions about GPS Positioning and open cache.. click "Allow for this session" but for INTERNET USAGE CLICK NO.

3) You will see empty screen, Click MENU ...SETTINGS.... MAPS... STORED MAPS///

4) Tick Mark Stored Maps and Offline Mode and Click SAVE... path will be by default as shown... (For Black Berry you might see "SD CARD/MGMapsCache"...if not there then give this path)...when asked to restart MGMaps, Select Yes.. Now Exit MGMaps...

5) Start MGMaps Again..and follow Allow for this session and No for internet usage as in step 2..Now click MENU... MAPS... MAP TYPES

UNTICK ALL Maps except for Google Maps, Google Hybrid and Google Satellite.. (see pic below).. then click OPTIONS... SAVE.... and BACK...

6) Now Click on "Map" a shown in Picture to change Map type... By default it is set to Yahoo Maps so change it to Google Maps or Google Hybrid...(or which ever u downloaded)

7) Now Click on MENU...GOTO... and Put in the coordinates as below... (this step in required to locate maps of Pakistan as by default it is set to US and therefore u might not see the Maps. You can change the zoom level to the specified level , if u have downloaded one zoom level...

8) You will start seeing Yahoo Maps but now you can change between Maps by Clicking "Map type Button"...(see Pic)

9) Now Go out in Open space and wait for the GPS to receive satellite signals.. If you have a single storied home then it might work even inside home but if you have double storied or more then you should Go out in open space....
Wait for at-least 5 mins... Normally take 2-3 mins to lock on a satellite..

Once it locks on a satellite, the Red Satellite indicator icon will turn GREEN (see in Pic) this will tell u that GPS is online.... and a Blue colored balloon will appear that shows ur location..

10) Mark that location as you favorite so that you don't get lost in Maps while browsing....that can be done in MENU...FAVORITES..

11) If you want to see 'Speed and Location Coordinates', then Click MENU...SETTINGS...MAP and OVERLAYS...Preferably Choose settings that I have..in picture below..when done.. Click Save..OK

You will see the Display as in picture below. But it will only show Coordinates and Speed values when your GPS is locked on to a satellite..

12) By default the Maps are not set to move with your GPS Position. If you want your maps to move with ur location then Click MENU.....GPS.....SETUP.....MOBILE TRACKING....Tick Move Map... and change Refresh (sec) to 1 ... Click Save when done..
Note: The Lower is the refresh rate, the better it will tell u speed and position but will consume battery more...

You will enjoy your travel in Aeroplane where you don't have internet access nor Cellular network but your GPS can lock on to satellite and you can find which place you are flying over and how fast are you moving...

Enjoy Offline Maps without having to use internet...
