LG Optimus Vu challenged Galaxy Note

LG launched the presence of new Android handset, Optimus Vu. With a large screen that is said to be a combination of smartphones and tablet computers, Optimus Vu intended to challenge the Galaxy Note made by Samsung which already comes first. LG has released official pictures and specifications of Optimus Vu.

This handset has a 5-inch landscape IPS 1024x768p display, slightly smaller than the Galaxy Note which has 5.3 inch screen. Both phones are categorized in the super large segment. But this one is a bit different in its form factor. Not only to the Note, but to all smartphones. It has a 4:3 screen ratio, making the device oddly wide.

But if there is anything special about this device is its sleek and sexy aesthetics. When the Lumia 900 was revealed, many Android enthusiasts were upset that the device didn’t come to the Android team. IF you were one of those, this might be the smartphone for you, as it is very similar.

LG Optimus Vu Specifications:
* Android 2.3 (will be upgrated to Android 4.0 soon)
* 1.5GHz dual-core processor
* 1 GB of RAM
* 32 GB of internal storage
* 8 MP with AF LED rear-facing camera / 1.3 MP front-facing camera
* 2,080 mAh battery
* Dimensions: 139.6 x 90.4 x 8.5mm

The other specs are good, but nothing out of this world. The battery is larger than many devices, but not by much. And 32 GB of internal storage are quite tempting. We wonder how the device will feel in the hands, though, with its wider form-factor. It will probably be much harder to use the device single-handed.

The device is also only 8.5 mm thick, making it the slimmest LTE device around. This adds to its good looks, which is something very luring about the LG Optimus Vu. But tell us what you think. Do you like this smartphone? Do you think you will be waiting for it, or will you go for one of those quad-core beasts to be announced at MWC?

LG Nitro HD ready to speeding in 4G networks

Smartphones in the now more abundant with the sophistication of features. LG Electronics is not to be outdone by its competitors and introduce LG Nitro HD, smartphones with LTE 4G connectivity as well as a number of flashy features. Unfortunately, Nitro HD seems to be only a limited circulation in the United States alone, bundled by AT&T carriers.
LG Nitro HD ready to speeding in 4G networksThis handset joins with Samsung Galaxy S II, Skyrocket and HTC Vivid as 4G LTE smartphones sold by AT&T.

The Nitro has a 4.5-inch True HD Advanced High-Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS) display, runs Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor.

AT&T's first smartphone to sport a true high-definition screen is also equipped with 500 nits (candelas per square meter) display luminance, providing clear viewing in direct sunlight. Red, green and blue stripe pixels offer accurate, true-to-life color rendering, according to a press statement from AT&T.

Any device fitted with an HD resolution supporting resolutions up to 1280-by-720 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio should be ideal for viewing movies, TV shows and other multimedia content, such as games. The LG Nitro HD supports Zynga Poker HD, as well as HD titles from the Gameloft HD game store.

The Nitro is also graced with an 8 megapixel HD camera and 20GB of memory, including 4GB onboard and 16GB via a microSD that comes in the box. WiFi Direct technology and DLNA allow Nitro owners to tap wireless HD content streaming options, allowing users to share HD content.

The carrier's 4G LTE network, which is vying for market share versus Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network, Sprint's 4G WiMax and T-Mobile's 4G network, is currently available in 15 markets and provides speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G.

AT&T's 4G LTE provisions aren't as clear cut as Verizon's are. AT&T enables 4G using HSPA+ and LTE technologies. The carrier claims that HSPA+, when combined with enhanced backhaul, provides 4G data speeds to customers with compatible devices such as the Nitro, Skyrocket and Vivid.

That 4G LTE backhaul deployment is ongoing, said AT&T, which earlier this month added Boston; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore; and Athens, Ga., to its existing markets of Atlanta; Chicago; Dallas-Fort Worth; Houston, Texas; and San Antonio, Texas.

NOVA Technology on LG Android phones

Rivals, coming from LG is introducing its new Android mobile phone connectivity 4G LTE, and display that claims to be very impressive. 'NOVA', thus calling LG technology on display at the cell phone, supporting low-end HD resolution of 720p or 1280×720 pixels.
With a size of 4.5 inch, LCD screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and more pixels than the retinal display is embedded in the iPhone 4 and 4S. With this technology, above the 4.5 inch size, the LG will accommodate 329ppi display. While Apple's screen, measuring 3.5 inches to accommodate 326ppi.

LG Android phones
“LG Optimus LTE is the first smartphone in Korea to offer vivid and clear HD content on a 4G network,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our goal is to be a leading player in LTE devices by continuously offering best-in-class products based on our LTE patents and knowhow.”

The rest of the phone seems to have stats that are quite comparable to the rumored specs of the upcoming Galaxy Nexus phone, which is set to be unveiled later this month and will mark the debut of Google’s Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. It packs in a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of internal storage, a 16GB Micro SD card, an 8MP rear camera, a 1.3MP front camera, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), a hefty 1830mAh battery and a relatively thin frame at only 10.4mm thick, which isn’t a whole lot thicker than the 9.3mm iPhone 4(S).

On a side note, LG also claims to own 23 percent of the 1,400 LTE patents filed in the world, meaning it should be good when the eruption of 4G lawsuits starts any day now.

LG announces the LG Optimus Black, with NOVA display

LG’s currently doing its CES 2011 presentation, where it’s just announced the LG Optimus Black – an Android phone it claims will have the “world’s brightest” display. As well as being bright it’ll also be 15% more efficient than whatever LG used as its baseline display type.

Here’s a terribly poor image of the Optimus Black and its brightness boasts, ripped from the live video feed of the event:

LG also claims this phone can record and playback 1080p footage. It’s borderline exciting.

LG Optimus One, preview on camera, GPS and apps

Time for PART TWO of our odyssey through the LG Optimus One, the newest 3.2″ Android 2.2 phone to hit the UK. In PART ONE we looked at the phone’s interface and web options, so here we’re going to fire up the camera, take a few photo samples, mess around with the GPS – AND MORE.

Our Optimus One was supplied by Three UK. Three didn’t say we have to link to its site in return, but it only seems polite. We also have to send it back, so don’t go accusing us of going easy on it because we got it for free.

Here’s the Optimus One’s camera settings. While the sensor is limited to only 3megapixels, the Optimus One has a good range of options with plenty of scene settings, photo and video resolutions. It’s got lots of things to play with.

This is a tree. The council has been round to remove all the leaves and put them into storage for winter, so all that’s left is the twiggy bits.

This is a sign. You should now have enough raw data to be able to form your own opinion about the strengths and weaknesses of the Optimus One’s camera.

We had a special request from a reader to check the GPS connection. It works. We connected in just over 40 seconds and Google Maps Navigation was ready to go. It was a sunny day, although that probably doesn’t make much difference to satellites.

On the apps side of things, LG has included the ThinkFree Office tool, so you’re able to create DOCX text files and spreadsheets while “on the go”. Twitter and Facebook came pre-installed and setup as whopping widgets on a Home screen.
